Michael Misick has announced the date for General
Elections in the Turks & Caicos Islands as February 9,
2007. Nomination date according to Misick is January
22, 2007. This announcement came during a live
press conference.

Inquest into death of Cayman Islands businessman to open in Bermuda this month
GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands: The long-delayed
inquest into the 2005 death in Bermuda of wealthy
businessman, and long-time resident of the Cayman
Islands, Dimitri Pappas, will finally get under way on
23 January 2007, according to Dwayne Caines, of the
Bermuda Police Service (BPS).

GUANTANAMO, Cuba (AFP): Demonstrators in mock
prison garb rallied here and around the globe
Thursday calling for the US prison in Guantanamo,
Cuba, to be closed, five years after its first "war on

Home Affairs Clement Rohee told the National
Assembly on Thursday that former New York Police
Commissioner, Bernard Kerik, has not been hired nor

decision making.

Caribbean summit on HIV/AIDS comes to USVI next weekend
WASHINGTON, USA: Ministers of Health from across
the Caribbean and the United Nations Special Envoy
for HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean will converge on the
US Virgin Islands from January 20 through January 22
to discuss the economic impact of HIV/AIDS on the
Caribbean.

OECS Heads open meeting in Antigua
ST JOHNS, Antigua: Organisation of Eastern
Caribbean States (OECS) Heads of Government
opened the 44th meeting of the OECS Authority on
Wednesday with a strong signal that the work to
create an OECS Economic Union is set to enter a

Nevis set to revive cotton production
CHARLESTOWN, Nevis: Agriculture officials on Nevis
are optimistic that the revival of cotton production
on Nevis will bring large monetary returns for the
island. Dr Kelvin Daly, Director of Agriculture, said
that a Japanese interest indicated willingness to pay
US$8 per pound of sea island cotton lint.

Jamaica receives US$100,000 from USAID to fight malaria
KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS): The Jamaican Ministry of
Health on Wednesday received a cheque valued at
US$100,000 (J$6.18 million) from the United States
Agency for International Development (USAID), to aid
in its fight against malaria. This sum is the first of
two payments.

Raul Castro in control, says intelligence

stable after the death of Fidel Castro, a military
intelligence official told a Senate panel, the Miami
